Last minute trip to the Dunes......Thanks Rachelle & Aarron for the ride 2011-12

We jumped in with Aaron and Rachelle for a last minute trip to the Dunes. Amaron and family and Loren and Family, Sean and family were already there....along with the Gronik's...Dave and Susan and Joseph and Vanessa and family....we left town about 11:44 PM and arrived at the camp site around 4:15 AM. Don't know how Aaron did it but he drove right to the camp site. After a few hours sleep the fun began. Angelene, Zach and family arrived around 11 AM. So we had 5 children with their children at the dunes.

As soon as we got to the beach....Seaside...where some of Maddy's friends were playing....159 volleyball courts set up on the beach...grandpa decided to take a nap....

We went to the Falls on Sunday afternoon.....Sierra, Madelynn, and Sydnee all spoke in Church earlier...they all did an excellant job.

Surprise Birthday Party for DeLona----Elvis is in the house!

About a year ago Steven and Rachelle decided to throw a 40th birthday bash for DeLona....it was to be a surprise.....of course we that know DeLona, know that it is hard to surprise DeLona with anything....she is a good detective! But anyway plans were started. Of course we all know that you don't tell little ones if you want to keep a secret. So only Sierra, of the children knew about it. DeLona is a Elvis fan so the theme was a no brainer.

As time went by a few things were added to the mix. DeLona had planned a trip to Hawaii and right before her birthday. So that had to be worked around. Rachelle made invites, sent via the e-mail. Plane tickets were being checked on daily for the best rates. Motels were checked for rates....Dayson & Kim planned their vacation so they could be there. Amaron and Satya were coming, things changed so they could not come. Loren and Anna were coming but things changed and they could not come. Sean and Christine had baby Troy Valentine on the 27th of July....timing not good....Adam and Kristie had baby Lance Gary on the 15th of June, timing not good. Glenn had school and a new job...timing not good. So the rest of us managed to get to Gresham. Gary and I flew in on the 4th of August...a day early...we rented a car and drove to the Days Inn in Gresham. We had to lay low because DeLona is always running errands and going right by the Days Inn. Steven knew where we were so he keep DeLona away from the area. We walked to the Burgerville and got us dinner.....later Cole and Sierra came by to say hi....but only for a few moments because they had to get back before their mother who had run to the TBYC for ice cream. We ventured to Walmart to pick up a few things. Then Gary went swimming before we retired for the night.

Next morning Gary went swimming again then breakfast, then off to Costco to meet up with Rachelle, Aaron, Angelene and Zach. The timing was good, they walked in a few minutes after we did. They had the early flight from Phoenix, picked up their rental car and meet us at Costco. The adventure was started. Zach, Angelene, Rachelle, Aaron and Gary had lunch...I checked out a few things while they were eating. Rachelle had her list and she started filling her basket. It was like a game....finding everything. As her basket got fuller more people were filling Costco....by the time we left it was pretty busy....everything was put in our reatal car...then it was off to Fred Myers...more things were picked up. It was after 12:30 PM and Sierra gave Rachelle the all clear....so we headed to DeLona's....the children had everything clean and were so excited to see all of us. Cole was a big help in unloading all the party items. Zach, Aaron, and the rest of us helped also. It was a trick to find room for everything. Somethings were put into an ice chest, Rachelle and Sierra started right away getting the decorations ready. They need a few more things so off to the $ store they went. I started cutting up fruit, Angelene started organingizing....g-pa decided he wasn't needed so he headed back to the motel....Aaron and Zack headed to check in....Dayson called a little later and asked for instructions for what exit to take....They made it....g-pa went swimming with some of the Dayson bunch while Kim went to Walmart. It was a team effort to get everything ready. It was decided that Zach and Aaron were to grill the hamburgers and hot dogs. I must say that they did a wonderful job.

Julie (Steven's sister) bought a salad, Judy(Steven's mom) bought a pasta salad, Rachelle made Pina Coladas, tomatoes, sliced, lettuce washed and put out, Fruit kabobs made, and plated....chicken marinated and then Angelene cut it up and made chicken kabobs. Maddy and Sydnee helped her with the kabobs. Tables were set up and clothed lights were hung....Cole helped with the stringing up of these..all of the children helped put this wonderful surprise together. Angelene and Rachelle made a quick run back to the motel to get ready and then the surprise was on.....

As you can see she was surprised..."How did you get this planned.." "without me knowing about it."

Steven took DeLona out for the afternoon with him while Rachelle, Sierra, Maddy, Sydnee, Cole, Presley, Angelene, Zach, Aaron, myself and g-pa helped get things ready.

Sorry that I did not get every one's picture....All of Kyle's family were there, all of Brandon's...Wyatt Fox, had a mohoak hair cut....Dayson, Kim and their family were there...Jeff and Angela...and there children. Rachelle and Aaron had Angelene's children, Angelene and Zach were off celebrating their 4th Anniversary. Garrett, Tatum and Dusty were there with their parents. I missed Lindsay's boys...in the pictures....they were so cute.

It is hard to get to everyone's but we did get to Halee and Cade's awards....

Kashlynn and Krew got to come also....they do not like to have pictures taken of them...they always turn their faces.... Someone behind us love the red heads...he had red hair also and wished his children had red hair....he asked if he could take a picture of them so he could show his wife who was not there....I said yes....hope that was OK.

This is the third place we camped....at 117 FS RD. close to Cortaro Lake.....we thought we would be safe. No we had to pack up and leave on Friday.....

Anna and Loren made a quick trip to the Dr. office for Kalicia and Charlotte....Kalicia has a blister on her eye...and Charlotte got her ear checked.....they told the Dr. all about the fire and how we had to move so many times.

We we all so excited to have Rachelle, Aaron, Zach, Angelene, Krew and Kashlynn show up....

Kalicia loves to ride the quad....she got going a little too fast down the hill and her daddy had to help her get going again.

We played a game that was like sherades.....Rachelle is helping Halee....Glenn waiting for his turn.

The children all enjoyed playing ball.....It was Dayson's Birthday on Friday....he and DeLona are both 39 now. He had to work because of the fire...so we celebrated without him.

Monday dad and I drove over to Woodruff before going to Dayson's.

We stopped at the post office....we talked to a couple and she said that she was related....to James Clark Owens.

We then drove down to the Little Colorado River....many dams have been erected...none have lasted.

You can see that they just pump the water out of the river now....

We then went to the cemetery....Lucretia Proctor Robinson and James Clark Owens' head stone.
They are my great great grandparents. My grandmother, Harriet Lucretia Owens Copley, was born in Woodruff, Arizona and lived most of her life on the Lasqueti Island, BC, Canada....My mother, Elsie Josephine Copley Lawlor, was born on Lasqueti Island and lived most of her life in Mesa, Arizona. You can see that a pioneer symbol has been placed on the head stone. They were sent by the prophet to settle in Woodruff...They had thirteen children....one was Marion Alfred Owens, (my great grandfather)...and his wife Beatrice Ann Teeples, also had 10 children. My grandmother and grandfather, Merion Judson Copley, and Harriet Lucretia Owens Copley also had ten children, and Gary Oba Merrill and myself, Valena Sharlene Lawlor Merrill, also have 10 children.

We took our pictures at the welcome sign on the way out of Woodruff.

Then it was off to Dayson and Kim's house....Kim went to Missouri for a Head Start convention...Here Grandpa Merrill and little Adam are watching TV.

Carson and Harly had basketball games Tuesday and Thursday. Harly is # 2....she scored two points in her first game....but they lost.

Harly #2...she scored three points in the second game and they won.

Carson scored some in his first game but he scored 10 in the game on Thursday. ...#7 Carson

Little Adam took a nap everyday after Aarron went to Preschool....what a nice treat...we also took a rest.

Carson number 7 was the high scorer....10 out of the 22 points in this game Thursday night.

WE had a wonderful time.....gone for a week....Glenn took care of himself....rode his skateboard to the bus stop and then the bus to the Rail stop.

We watched Conference with Loren and Family....Dayson and his family came over on Saturday to Loren's and the men (also,Carson and Clayton) went to Priesthood together. Anna, Kim, and Jessyka fixed hot dogs, to go along with the yummy beans Anna made, and the kids and myself enjoyed each others company....the men ate theirs after Priesthood. We all enjoyed a wonderful time at Loren and Anna's. Sunday we watched morning conference and then Anna's mother and father, sister, Jessyka and her husband, Nate Boyd, their two children, Meika, and Jade, and friends of Loren and Anna, can't remember their names came over for lunch and afterward we watched the afternoon session of Conference. WE played Scrabble Sunday evening and the girls played with their toys.

Then on Monday we headed to Dayson's...via Woodruff. Kim left Monday evening after she fixed us a wonderful dinner. Dayson had a busy week...he went into New Mexico on Tuesday evening into the morning hours, to find a stolen dog....he was able to find the dog and made the owner very happy. Wednesday evening Dayson had to go to St. John's....when he got back from that he got a call to go to Verdon. someone had made a 911 call form the LDS Church building...so he got home late. Thursday, dad went for a ride along with Dayson to patrol Big Lake, that is when Aarron, Adam and myself made bread. Aarron helped me kneed the bread and roll out the bread for cinnamon rolls. We had basketball games again and after that, dinner, baths, homework and bed..... after all the children got to bed and asleep...the power went off...it was blowing really hard out side. Sometime around 3:30 AM the power came back on. Friday, MacKenzie had her spring music program at school...we attended that and then early afternoon we headed home.

It was a windy day....we were behind the rain on the way home...but it blew....Saturday it rained in Mesa....

Thanks to Anna, Loren, Dayson and Kim and the children for a wonderful week....we love you.

They had a few stops.....wheel bearings were smoking....they stopped twice for that, they ran over a javelina....blood and what ever was all over the truck and side of the boat......but about 10:30 PM they pulled up in camp.

Sydnee's volley ballgame....

Our tree in the front yard is getting old.....it was planted in 1972....it was shorter than Gary when we moved in....April of 1974. This happened on Monday.....then Tuesday another storm hit and it rained....hailed, and wind blew....and another limb on the tree came down and hit the Excursion and shattered the windshield.....Gary was at work but Krew and Kashlynn were with me and we were watching out the front window....it was blowing so hard and the hailed was hitting the window and making such a loud noise that Krew and Kashlynn wanted to move away from the window....

Gary used his new toy (Artic Cat) to drag the tree off the carport....

We flew to Portland on Tuesday morning October 12, 2010 so we could be part of the Lindhorst Family.

Maddy had a volleyball game that evening.....her team won....

After the race Sierra and her mother are talking it over...she did so good....we think that she came in 15th...tied her best time.

Cole had a football game on Thursday night....they did so good...they held Central Catholic scoreless the first half.....but CC came back in the second half and won. Cole is #21.....he looks a little disappointed.

Mt. Graham...Merrill Reunion 2010

Mount Graham is always the weekend that our children get to play and be with their children and play and be with their cousins. This year because of a flux pax not everyone could of been there came. The forest service call JT and said that one of the spots that was reserved was inaccessable so the reunion was cancelled because there was not room enough for everone to get into the one camp ground........our children said that no matterwhat they wanted to go up to the mountain and go and find a place to camp...the day before we left Uncle Frank who was already up there....talked to a ranger who came into camp and ask why we could not camp in our spot............ reserved spot....he said he did not see any reason..others had made different plans and could not change them the last minute. But as you can see....we did have a wonderful time and did not get rain until we were packing up to leave for home on Monday. Halee and Sage tried to make their usual swing in the tree....but had to settle for a zip line. Dallin was still enjoying his gilly suit and hope to scare Aunt Rachelle and Uncle Aaron when they got into camp late on Friday....but it was so late that he was asleep....so he quickly put on the next morning and attempted to do the deed then. Sunday morning we all met up at the O's campground and had a spiritual meeting. Aunt Kay talked about her Grandpa Gerald Merrill and the wonderful man he was and the many experiences he had , one which he was able to take apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ around the Gila valley before there was anything but horse and buggy. Brother Heber J. Grant told him that the valley was being preserved for the saints and would someday have a great deal to do with the kingdom of God...it was Grandpa Gerald Merrill who worked on the Graham mountains and grandma Lorena Sarah Taylor, his wife who gave us the tradition of coming up to the mountain...he was a forest ranger himself. Kyle Merrill gave a spiritual talk about had we can grow and learn each day. Ryan Merrill, JT's and Kelly's son who just got home from a two year Mission to Orem, Utah gave a few remarks about his mission. Gary gave a few thank yous and bore his testimony. JT, uncle Orland oldest son finished up with his talk about being perfect even as our Father in Heaven is perfect.....We then went back to our camps and prepared lunch for a pot luck. Yum.....we were all fed and spiritually fed on Sunday.

Sunday was also Christine's birthday.....Sean's wife. Sean even surprised us all and had presents for her.....a nice new bag. I made a cake and we all enjoyed being together.

The children all had a wonderful time....they liked being in the Artic Cat and in the rinno, and the golf cart.
